Enjoy an afternoon with the U.S. Poet Laureate, and his wife Paula. Their off-the-grid home in Haiku’s Peahi Valley is surrounded by 19-acres of palm forest and is the future home of The Merwin Conservancy. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Merwin is one of the most widely awarded and read poets of our time. He has spent over 30 years planting, palm by palm, one of the most comprehensive botanical palm forests in the world. Simultaneously, he has penned poetry and prose that speak to and for the land, Hawaii, and the human condition, creating a body of work that is a literary achievement rarely seen. The afternoon includes a gourmet “locavore” lunch catered by Makawao’s Market Fresh Bistro.
